9th July Cookstown Half Marathon next Saturday from our friends at www.tri-limits.co.uk Belfast Triathlon race information Sunday 3rd July 12pm Belfast Harbour Estate Location Airport Road West Holywood Exchange End Competitors can park on the Road outside the gates near B&Q which will be closed to vehicles. Pedestrian and cycle access only. The registration and main transition area will be near the Anchor and the gates to Kinnegar Military logistics base. You can collect your swim hat and race number and rack your bike etc. from 10.30 to 11.15 and train on the course. We will be swimming there on Saturday at 11.30am. The swim will take place from the slipway beside Holywood Yacht Club. This is approx 15 minutes walk just bring your wetsuit goggles drinks etc and running shoes we will bring all this back to the finish area. There will be a 1 or 2 lap option. The 1 lap swim will start after the last 2 lap swimmer rounds the buoy.Water temperature on Wednesday was 14.6c. If you get into difficulty during the swim please turn on to your back and raise an arm. If you want to or can bring helpers, Kayakers or Marshall's we can pay them or donate. After swimming the competitors will run 1.5 k on the private path and on the private Military base Rd which will be closed to traffic and which we have permission to use. Proceed into the Harbour estate. We had planned to cycle on this Road but the situation has changed as a track cut in the road has not been filled and it may damage wheels..You can then collect your bike and complete 4 clockwise laps of a 5km circuit. The route is Airport Rd West turn left into Heron Rd this Road continues on to Moscow Rd and back on to Airport Rd West to return past the finish area. We had hoped to allow drafting but only a few seem to want to so just use your triathlon bikes and bars and stay 7 metres behind or overtake. Athletes at the fast end of the race should adhere to these rules There are some traffic speed ramps but they are okay to cycle over at speed but take care at these and during the 4 corners and when mounting and dismounting your bike. The final run will be approx 4.5k on the footpath and grass beside Airport Rd West. There will be snacks and drinks at the finish and please bring fold up seats for your friends and to use at the finish area and a picnic. Until new timing chip stuff arrives our new timing partner will provide a finish time. Full spilt timing will be at Portaferry and the other races. We will award small cash prizes in the 750 swim event only and trophies 123 male and female and 123 vet male and female In this area and showers will be available nearby.

19th Sept Alistair Duffield 2010 Roe Valley winner & 09 Ireman champ wins the Portaferry Triathlon 20 years after competing the 1st one as a 17 year old in 2hr 01min 40secs. Alistair former elite Irish triathlete recently completed the UK Ironman in 10.17 and finished 20th in this years Belfast marathon in 2.42
Former Strangford resident Trudy Brown the only Irish athlete ever to represent Ireland at elite short and long course Triathlon and elite cycling wins her 44th Triathlon and her 6th victory this season finishing 11th overall in 2.13.50.

They celebrate 40 years this year and have a long history with local sports and challenges. The Organiser will donate £5 per entry to the charity and sponsorship forms will be available. History The original Portaferry International Triathlon was organised by Desi McHenry and Neill Granger, both should be competing this year. It was held 4 times from 1990 and was an ITU world Cup race. The 1st year the swim was at low tide approx 1.1km. The other years at high tide approx 1.3km. Slack water lasts around 25 mins. Irelands Garret McGarthy and Alison Hamilton two of Irelands greatest ever Triathletes won the first event. ITU elite and Hawaii Ironman world pro champion Karen Smyers won in '91. World no1 Brad Bevan won the mens in 92. Many of the worlds greatest Triathletes raced here including ITU and Ironman World Champion Greg Welch Robin Brew, Spencer Smith, Richard Hobson, Melisa Mantak and Carol Montgomery. To promote the area, support charity and to celebrate 20 years, One of Irelands greatest races returns.
